I heard that the large banks charge $35 for a bounced check and up to $15 for a low balance fee. that’s disgusting. I hope you’re with a credit union. Among the other perks of better rates and better service, they have lower fees. Wouldn’t you agree?

The only bad thing I can see, about working for a credit union, when I spend holidays with family, friends and sometimes strangers, they all complain about their bank.

Just recently, at a Christmas Eve dinner, I had someone (Don’t worry Pam, I won’t mention your name) start in and tell me how bad another bank had been to her. She lamented the exorbitant fees, the horrible rates and crappy customer service. Just as I was going to start in on my “Why you should be a CU member”, she said, “That’s why I just joined *** Federal Credit Union. They are terrific…” She just loves credit unions now.

So now, I ask you, if you’re a bank customer, check out your friendly, neighborhood credit union and join today. You’ll thank me.

I did a rate comparison for our website recently and I was amazed at the fee structure at many banks. If you use those big banks, please take a moment to compare rates with your local credit union. Credit unions have traditionally had lower rates and members have come to depend and trust those lower fees. I spoke to a member of Northeast Family Federal Credit Union a few weeks ago who told me that Northeast Family’s rates were much lower than her boyfriend’s account at a local big bank. So, for better rates and FEES, join a credit union. Bank smarter.

As I was driving through my town a few weeks ago, I noticed a bank was changing it’s signage in front of the building. I thought, awww, that’s nice, they’re changing their signage, which means they’ll have to change their receipts, letterhead, cards, desktop displays and more. Who do you think gets to pay for that??? You and I! Well, you, if you are a bank customer.

Every time they merge (and this wasn’t a merger. They just changed their name) the must change everything with their name on it. Now take a moment and think of how much that entails.

I will grant you that credit unions merge, but it isn’t often. Credit unions are here to help people, not fleece them. Credit unions do merge, but rarely.

So the next time you hear that your bank is merging or changing it’s name, ask them how much is this going to cost me.

I was talking to a banking customer the other day, listening to him go on and on about the poor customer service he received at his bank, when I stopped them and told him this little diddy. In the middle of the summer, one of our members drove up, came in, and went through the teller line, all with a broken leg. This was an older member, so getting around was no easy feat. The next time she was on her way in, one of our employees saw her pull in, ran up to her and asked her is they could take care of her transaction. The member was able to stay in the car and be comfortable. Of course this isn’t a common thing and I don’t think it happened again, but that one thing to remember is, when was the last time you heard a bank employee say anything more than “That’s not my job”? We’re not customer service. We’re member service! Big difference.

What a surprise today! I put a CU Man tattoo on my hand and walked around,,,, all day.

I had 95% of people I came in contact with asking about it, which gave me the perfect opportunity to talk about credit unions. I launched in to my 30-seconds of why you should be with a credit union, especially Northeast Family Federal Credit Union.

If nothing else, I inspired a few people to get more info about credit unions. Maybe they will see that we offer much more than just banking services.

While I was out and about, I stopped in to one of our groups, where I had recently given a Lunch & Learn about credit. As I was passing out hats and CU Man tattoos, this woman starts telling about the Lunch & Learn and how it made her examine her credit and led to a raise in her score due to a few errors in her favor.

I went to another of our groups and as I was darned near accosted by the Ambassador. She started talking to the receptionist, who was thinking about joining our CU. She went on and on about how good we are. I damned near hugged & kissed her. I asked her if I could carry her around to our other groups.

These conversations would not have taken place, had I not been wearing a stupid little tattoo. This thing was a conversation piece. Think about getting one.

If you would like one, simple visit this page.
